Questionaire:
We recently reached out to Glen and requested discussing his past career and what is now commonly known as "The LNAH Donald Brashear Incident". Glen politely obliged and gave NHLFC permission to ask him some questions.
Although Glen never played in the NHL, he had the opportunity to play with several big named enforcers during the NHL 2005-2006 lockout. Glen had some very up close and personal meetings, one of which was the historic incident. Quote: Ross Yo Glen Glen Hey, hows it goin? Ross Good, hey man. I hope I didn't anger you about a week ago sending you an email about your career? Glen lol, no no, not at all. I meant to respond, but I was a little tied up, as I just had my finals in a fire/paramedic course I was taking Ross Ok, good. I don't know if you've checked out my site or not. I'm a huge hockey fight enthusiast. We did a topic on the whole incident. The writer who did the article back when it happened got involved as well. Nobody knew what happened with your career. That appeared to be an interruption which didn't continue. Glen No, I hadn't had the chance to check it out yet. I was actually gonna ask, because it appeared in the friend invite message, but once I accepted, it disappeared Glen So what'd you want to know about? Ross We did a topic based on "the incident". I'm pretty sure you know Huggie's track record. Kinda spot picker, decides when he'll drop em on his time and so forth. That game was a complete mess. It turned into all out chaos. There's been differing opinion as to how the whole thing got out of control. It appears from the really shitty video we have there was a butt. Nobody can tell if it was part of the fight by accident or was out of the heat of the moment defense. What is obvious is Brash went ballistic and completely out of control. Glen lol, Oh yeah, safe to say he went a little overboard. But actually, there wasn't any kinda head-butt whatsoever. There’s another video from a 2nd angle out there somewhere in which you can clearly see I don't even come close to him, I'd say at least a foot away from any kind of contact. I'm not even gonna lie, the guys a fucking powerhouse, and he was just rag-dolling me like I'd never thought anyone could do before (possibly a little rattled from that first shot he gave me, lol). But that was really just me being pulled in, then pushed out that made my head snap forward. Glen I still laugh at how all the articles say I "turtled"...I dunno who wrote this thing, but turtling would have entailed me covering my face at some point to protect myself, no? Ross We all know he's cheap and takes pot shots where and when he can. I got a ton of his old stuff from Jr/Fredericton/obviously NHL and LNAH. He's never changed. Right before the refs got him off you, it looked like he took two more shots while you were down. Both shots looked like the back of your head hit the deck and put you out. Totally unnecessary and cheap. You got a concussion from that right? I actually thought you did get a butt in from that shitty video. I do have a much better one from the Radio X DVD. I didn't get that far though. Man that disc is like watching UFC or MMA. Dan Hickling wrote a huge article on it. He comments a few times in our topic. Glen hahaha, I can only imagine it'd take a while to get through those, lol. And yeah, it actually does look like I did drop a head-butt, and when someone commented on that on one page I'd seen about it, I had to run grab the other video just to see for myself, cause if it had happened, it wasn't intentional. But in the 2nd tape, it’s not even close. And yeah, I had a concussion from it. If you watch my legs at the end of the video, you can see one go left, the other go right, and I had to drop to a knee cause I knew something was fucked up Ross Was that it for you? I've looked everywhere for more info. The only info I can gather is from hockeydb noting that game as the last game on your stat sheet. Glen No, my plan all along was to make some coin to pay for my fire school, and playing hockey to do so sure as hell beat any other option. So yeah, I came back here to Winnipeg and started my schooling soon after that incident. I still play, of course, but nothing overly serious or anything Ross That's one hell of a way to make a living bro. I talked at length with Linkster and he told me basically players who fight get the most cash and the more popular you are, the more money you get. Add in the amount of fights you have per game/season. One could actually make a decent living. I'd bet you met a lot of big name player's eh? I'm always amazed at what you guys do and how much punishment you take. But it doesn't seem to phase ya's. Glad you're healthy and it didn't leave any detrimental scars and so forth. Glen Well, the adrenaline rush you get in a fight in ridiculous. I can honestly say I've never been hurt in a fight in my life, and the worst I've taken was from Brash, and even he only left a spot under my eye that was a little tender to poke at And yeah, scrappers definitely got a few bucks more than the other players out there. I'm pretty sure it’s a one of a kind league in that aspect Ross LOL, that's crazy man. Listen, would you mind if I cleaned up our conversation and posted it on that topic noting I've had an opportunity to hear it from the man himself? Glen Thanks so much! You can let them know on the site that I'm willing to answer any Qs they have too. I'll pop on every now and again to see if there’s anything more I can add
Glen's hockey career professionally has ended, though he does still continue to play. Glen's occupation has changed from hockey enforcer to civil fire and rescue professional. Thanks Glen for your candid willingness to help provide the closure many have wondered about. | | | Views: 287 | | The Following 5 Users Say Thank You to 442nd For This Useful Post: | | |
